This is a fine Cased Collectors Solid Silver Limited Edition Replica of the 17th Century Silver Slip Top Spoon to commemorate the 350th Anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower from Plymouth on 6th Setpember 1620. It is Number 36 in a series of 1000 which were commissioned by Bowden & Sons of Plymouth. It comes complete in its original box and certificate of authenticity which reads "This fine reproduction of a 17th Century Spoon has been hand-forged using similar methods to those used in the making of the original spoons. The slipped-stalk spoon ws simply a radical departure from excessive ornament. Many historians believe that this change was prompted by religious motives. The Assay Office stamp in the bowl of the spoon is positioned as the stamp on the original spoons. The makers mark of Bowden & Sons incorporated the St. Andrews Cross, a design which was used by many of the early Plymouth Silversmiths". It is made from a good gauge of silver and has clear hallmarks.
