Important French Sterling Silver salver  Ref: PIU
	Important French/ American Sterling Silver salver and a unique piece of American history made by one of the most important and highly collected French makers, Piuforcat. This is a fine and very heavy silver salver presented by the Counsel of The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to Mr. Harlan Cleveland for his services to NATO 1965 - 1969. The salver bears the facsimile signatures of all of the NATO counsel members. Harlan Cleveland was a very important American, born in New York on 19th January, 1918 (he died in May of last year age 90) and was a eminent American diplomat, educator and author. He was the United States of America's Ambassador to NATO from 1965-1969 under President Lyndon Johnson. Prior to this, Harlan Cleveland was the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs between 1961- 1965.Among other things, he was also President of the University of Hawaii and President of the World Academy Of Art and Science. He was founding dean of the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey Instititute of Public Affairs. He was author of 12 books and was awarded 22 honorary degrees as well as the U.S. Presidential Medal Of Freedom. The salver reads ''Le Conseil De L'Atlantique Nord A Monsieur Haralan Cleveland 1965 - 1969' and below this are the signatures of all of the members. The salver is 10-3/8 inches / 263 mm in diameter and it is very heavy weighing 575 grams, so well over half a kilo. The reverse of the salver is marked with the French Minerve mark for sterling silver, maker's mark EP for Emille Piuforcat and it is also stamped 'Piuforcat'. The salver is in very good condition with no dents, damage or repair.This is a rare opportunity not only to purchase a unique piece of American history but also to purchase a piece of silver by this most famous French maker, Piuforcat.
