Very Fine and Rare Silver Plates x x4 By Very Important Maker Edward Wakelin London 1755 Oval Shape with reeded and shell Border, Engraved with a Crest and Motto Size 30cm. Edward Wakelin partner in the important firm of silversmiths Wickes (silversmiths to Frederick, Prince of Wales) Apprenticed to John Le Sage ( very important Huguenot silversmith) in 1730. By 1747 he had joined George Wickes, Wakelin took over the business in 1758. Wakelin continued in business until 1777, when his son John joined the firm. John Wakelin later entered into partnership with Robert Garrard (very important maker) in 1792. This became Wakelin & Garrard 1792, who hold the Royal Appointment to this day, Wickes/Wakelins/Garrards .
