Rare and very Interesting Irish Transitional pattern dessert Spoon with original initials H.M. Verso. Mid 18th. Century, length 17cm. ,weight 46 grams. The rib is to the front and the tip turned upwards as in Hanoverian pattern, this spoon is a tranitional hybrid of hanoverian pattern and fiddle pattern. The initials are engraved verso so this spoon was intended to be laid at the table in the French fashion,so obviously a spoon of quality. There are four bottom placed marks, now sadly quite rubbed, but no shoulders to the fiddle shape, and a very unusual drop. This spoon is of good guage and in good condition. There is a typical mid 18th. Century makers mark of a shaped punch with a large crown above a mullet, and between two letters ( both unclear ) and below a very clear V. There is a pinched crowned harp for Dublin. You will wait a very long time to see another of this type,a very interesting addition to any spoon collection.
